Fortem Voluntas - Our Story

Our journey began with a vision to revolutionize the commercial real estate industry by fostering essential changes. We are transforming how buildings are constructed, how businesses operate, and how we approach sustainability, all to create a better, cleaner, and more sustainable world. Founded by Joy Jordan, Fortem Voluntas (FV) is driven by a passion for innovative design, sustainability, and positive impact. From humble beginnings to pioneering urban development, our story is one of relentless pursuit of excellence and meaningful change.

Fortem Voluntas, meaning "strong will" in Latin, encapsulates our origin story of determination, resilience, and hard work. Joy Jordan, a respected leader in Chicago's commercial real estate landscape, founded Fortem Voluntas as a self-funded enterprise built from the ground up, embodying the spirit of entrepreneurship, determination, and innovation.

Rich Schuham, CEO of Global Occupier Services at Savills and Joy’s first manager and mentor, commented in 2019 after she won Crain’s Chicago 40 Under 40: “Jordan is as hard-charging of a human being as I have encountered. There are fundamental ingredients to being successful in this business, and if you don’t have an innate high-revving motor, it doesn’t matter which side of the table you’re on, you’re not going to succeed. I think the woman was born in overdrive.”

Throughout her career, Joy has been recognized with numerous awards and is known by her peers as a trailblazer who never gives up. Her accolades in commercial real estate include Crain’s Chicago 40 Under 40, Crain’s Chicago 20 In Their 20s, and the Greater Food Depository Office Representative Office Broker of the Year in 2012, 2013, and 2018. She was also named Chicago Office Power Broker of the Year in 2017 and 2018.

Originally from Aix-Les-Bains, France, Joy’s dedication extends far beyond commercial real estate. She is passionate about equestrian therapy programs for disabled children and is deeply committed to humanitarian organizations such as World Central Kitchen and Médecins Sans Frontières. Reflecting her commitment to fostering positive change, a portion of all profits is donated to these organizations. Making a lasting impact is one of the most important factors for our founder, and this dedication is woven into the fabric of Fortem Voluntas.
